SafePilot CAT I

The CAT I is a stand-alone high accuracy GPS receiver with the capability of GPS/GLONASS and available SBAS systems such as EGNOS, WAAS, MSAS, and GAGAN

CAT I is an add-on option to CAT ROT for use in operations that demand more accurate positioning than what is provided by the ship’s own positioning through the AIS pilot plug. The use of CAT I further improves the accuracy of the speed measurements of own vessel.

The CAT ROT / CAT I solution is thus independent of the ship’s positioning and speed sources. The only data still provided by the vessel’s pilot plug is heading data and AIS targets, which is less sensitive data as the pilot can easily validate the quality.

A containership arriving in Taiwan hit the berth after traveling in excess of the harbor speed according to reports from the port authority and Taiwan’s Maritime and Port Bureau. Video Unberthing of a 23,000 gross tons tanker

The "Navig8 Axinite" is a 184 meter tanker. It is in loaded conditions. two tugs are used. The maneuver consists of backing out using 2 tugs and the ship´s engine, for about 2 and a half ship´s lenghts an then turning to port. After the turn, you can hear me talking with the captain about passing arrangements with an inbound vessel, (another tanker).

Editors note: A film of a pilot boat has just been published on YouTube with the title "How Dangerous being in a Pilot Boat..." on YouTube. I'm not sure if this really shows a dangerous maneuver, maybe the experts can comment on it here.
But in principle it is problematic to approach the ship in such a small Pilot Boat in the wake from astern and cross the waves there. I remember an accident from Finland in December 2017 where the boat capsized and people died. Is this situation shown here...
