P&O Maritime Takes Delivery Of New Pilot Boat

Australian builder Hart Marine has delivered a new pilot boat to P&O Maritime Logistics for operation in the waters of Dubai.

Named Al Dairah, the newbuild is 17 metres long and is powered by two Caterpillar C18 671kW engines that deliver a maximum speed of 27 knots at 2,130 rpm.

The boat also possesses self-righting ability, a suspension-mounted wheelhouse, and a wave-piercing beak bow hull design, a feature that reduces slamming, vertical acceleration, and fatigue of pilots and crew.

Surely, the new invention also reduced the amount of time and hands (manpower) previously required to perform such a task. Now those idling "extra hands" could dedicate the "extra time" that was made available, to take care of other issues important for the community.
