Five questions for Jason Ranston, Business Manager at eMPX

published on 18 May 2021 195 -

In our new new section “Five questions for ..." Marine-Pilots.com introduces pilots and other market players to our readers in short interviews.

Today we have talked to Jason Ranston, Business Manager at eMPX

What does your company offer and what makes your company unique?

eMPX provides pilots with a toolkit to plan, share, review, update and manage Master-Pilot exchanges, meeting and supporting not only port industry operational procedures but also increasing regulatory demands.

eMPX is focused on better Master Pilot exchanges – it is a full solution that looks at the entire MPX process, being made to enhance and improve the exchange between the Master and the Pilot. eMPX does this by focusing on creating better shared mental models, with what we call ‘exchange-first’ process and intelligent ‘exchange-centred’ technologies.

eMPX features are built on knowledge and experience from active pilots, port services and various actors in the pilotage sector, meaning this solution is for industry, by industry.

What is your job at eMPX and do you have to fulfill special requirements for the job?

As the business manager for eMPX, it is my role to bring to life our business vision - being the professional standard for Master-Pilot Exchange. I’m therefore responsible for overseeing, promoting, protecting and evolving our eMPX product with our customers.

With one of my core competencies being customer experiance, I am the driving force behind the development and execution of customer success strategies and product alignment - our customers co-design with us, on every feature we implement.

What is the best thing about your job and why?

The variability of my job is what gets me up in the morning. We provide a professional eMPX platform to marine professionals, and each port and pilotage operation presents us with unique challenges where I am able to contribute my experience and skills in strategy, design and customer success.

It is this diversity of work that ensures that no day is like any other, and I am always focused on bettering the pilotage community, which makes you feel good when the day is done.

What is special about offering services/products for pilots?

Pilots have stressful jobs that take a lot out of them; both physically and mentally. So when we deliver our solution into a port or pilotage operation, we get a great sense of accomplishment that we’ll be genuinely helping them in their job and making at least some part of their work more manageable.

What is your opinion about Marine-Pilots.com?

Marine-pilots.com is an excellent, clearly growing database of no-nonsense pilot news and information. It is perfect for those that are new to the industry and for seasoned veterans alike.
