When a pilot ladder reaches its 30 month anniversary it needs a retest certificate. It must be returned to the manufacturer or an approved testing station to be weight tested and inspected.

In my opinion Pilot Ladder as a means of safe access to the ship must be subject to class surveyor's inspection for annual cargo ship safety equipment survey , not exceeding 15 months ( i.e.+3 months window of annual survey) or at intermediate cargo ship safety equipment survey .
