by AIMPA - All India Marine Pilots' Association - published on 29 April 2021 150

IMPA inching closer to (SAMIPTA- समीपता) discussing Pilot Ladder safety and this time in association with India's most prestigious Maritime University, IMU. AIMPA is proud to have organised a unique competition to author a Research paper on Pilot ladder - risk mitigation innovation and alternatives to Pilot Transfer arrangement.

Cadets, with a young mind striving to innovate, create and change, will be tasked with thinking out of the BOX to bring out change through innovation in the Pilot Transfer Arrangement. Pilot ladder is an age old equipment, however, an important element stands at the cross roads of port requirements and ship's execution. The missed guidance has cost many pilots, their life, while boarding the ship in the most dynamic conditions. Risking their life, Pilots' trust on the ship's crew for proper rigging, often causes them to be involved in fatal accidents.

This research competition is aimed at mitigating these risks and save the precious lives of the skilled pilots who augment safety in navigation in ports. This can prove to be evidence of the fact, that India does not only has operative talents but also young minds having a flare for innovation in the industry.

AIMPA requests whole hearted support from the industry as well as participation from maritime training institutes so that we have maximum young cadets taking part in bringing innovation to Pilot ladder safety.

You would receive the invitations to participate in the competition from IMU HQ. Please do the needful by registering the maximum number of teams. We would be happy to assign a pilot per MTI to guide the professor in-charge, if need be.
