Video Maritime Pilots' Institute
The Maritime Pilots Institute is the premier training facility for River Pilots employing a mix of virtual and real world facilities. Located in Covington Louisiana, we are 45 minutes from downtown New Orleans while offering the safety and amenities of small town life.
The training presents a balance between simulated locations with a variety of environmental conditions and manned scale models of cargo ships in a series of lakes with docking and currents and live factors such as wind and weather.

For people in Europe and in the days of a general me-too debate, it may seem a little strange that a male captain meets a female pilot and seems to ignite a romance.
There must be many more female pilots, but cooperation on the bridge must be professional, especially from the male colleagues.
I am sure that the creators of the video want to show that it is unprofessional if the captain and the pilot do not fully concentrate on their important work.

Video Failed overtaking of another ship in a canal - Port Revel Shiphandling
Found on YouTube. Created by "Port Revel". From 2014...
Manoeuvring large ships at close quarters and on shallow water is one of the most difficult aspects of shiphandling because of the complex hydraulic interactions depending on the ships' speeds, on the water depth and on lateral restrictions like in canals. Training is conducted both on meeting and on overtaking ships in shallow waters. This video shows how overtaking in a canal can easily fail.

Video Ship piloting in pandemic times in Santa Marta, Colombia

It has been 1 month since the 1st case of coronavirus in the country. All airports were shut down, and mandatory confinement was issued 10 days ago. Nevertheless, Maritime shipping must continue (except for tourist related). The means that us pilots must continue with our duties despite the risks involved with all the ships' crews arriving from different countries. So we need to take all safety measures possible.
This particular maneuver was unberthing a chemical tanker, in loaded condition, the "Maersk Borneo", which is a mid size tanker with a bow thruster and a fixed pitch prop. I used 2 tugs fast on the port side, backed her out of the basin and turned her to port. Captain and crew were very professional.
