Profile

The Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies (MITAGS) is a world-renowned maritime training and simulation center. The Institute has been providing high-quality maritime training programs for military and commercial mariners for well over thirty years. Today, over 150 different courses are available for mariners from around the globe. In addition, MITAGS is one of the few schools in the United States that offers all of the STCW training courses that are necessary to progress from Ordinary Seafarer to Unlimited Master.

The origin of MITAGS can be traced back to the establishment of the Maritime Advancement, Training, Education, and Safety (MATES) program. The MATES Program is a non-profit trust that was created in 1968 by major steamship lines and the International Organization of Masters, Mates and Pilots (IOMM&P). The original mission of the MATES Program was to enhance the professionalism of mariners, and it is a goal which continues to this day.

MITAGS offers a wide-range of programs, including courses that support the following areas of the maritime industry:

Container / ro-ro
State pilots.
Military sealift command (MSC).
Cruise ships
Tank ships
