Again another video that shows a Non Compliant PTA
But also some bad safe working practices, why go down the inside of the Pilot Cutters Deck ? The safest way is to go down the outside. The deck hand should be lifting the ladder on deck so no chance of the ladder being nipped and worse still being stretched / weight tested. Then the next Pilot climbs on to a weekend ladder that has the potential to snap 🤬

Over the course of 4 days this August, I was afforded the opportunity and privilege of riding with the Savannah Bar Pilots for an article I was writing for a major maritime magazine. Like many seafarers I have long been a keen follower of The Nautical Institute’s MARS programme, and along with many other members I listened to the recent webinar on that topic. One theme which was repeated more than once was that it is better to learn from someone else’s misfortune rather than have it happen to you. Having personally been involved in two near misses resulting from unsafe pilot transfer arrangements in a relatively short space of time, I asked how experiences and knowledge specifically about pilot ladder safety could best be promulgated to avoid repeating common accidents or near misses.
