I don’t see the pilot tender skipper move outside to the poopdeck 10 times an hour on a winter night in the North Sea.
The procedure over here is that the tender does not move under the ladder until the very last moment. It should not be under the ladder in the first place.

Dear sir Mr.Herman that's right But as I mentioned skipper position will side to pilot point which will be not more than 2 meter of distance apart .
Skipper will be able to see Easley activity of pilot during transfer.

Pilot boat skipper needs to be able to see the ladder (and the pilot) at all times, hence the embarkation position forward of the steering position.

Video Safehaven Marine 'Independent Vision' pilot boarding

published on 8 June 2020

Here’s a nice video of the ‘Independent Vision’ having her pilot embarked offshore by the Cork pilot boat ‘Failte’ an Interceptor 48 before she enters Cork Harbour. We also undertook some alongside handling trials at the same time with ‘San Cibrao’ before she is shipped to Spain. Sure was interesting trying to land the drone back on the boat in the 40kt winds offshore!

by Bianca Reineke, lutheran Pastor, Germany - published on 23 December 2022

Do you ever leave the harbour to get on a vessel you will guide along without a ritual? Whatever we trust in, whatever the rituals or traditions you Marine Pilots have - when you board your pilot boats, climb the ladders, get the vessels through the harbour - keep them and cherish them, they are good and they are important.
