The TRENZ SIRIUS+
TRENZ, a leading manufacturer from Germany, is expanding its product lineup with the launch of SIRIUS+, a high-performance Portable Pilot Unit (PPU). As an evolution of the widely recognized SIRIUS model, the new device features cutting-edge technology designed for maximum precision and reliability, particularly for use on Ultra Large Container Vessels (ULCVs).

Equipped with dual external antenna ports and an advanced Hexa IMU, SIRIUS+ delivers enhanced accuracy and performance for professional maritime navigation. The integration of six Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs) significantly improves data precision, while the addition of RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) correction capability ensures centimeter-level positioning accuracy—critical for demanding pilotage operations.

Despite its enhanced technology, SIRIUS+ remains one of the lightest PPUs in its class, weighing just 290 grams. A key improvement is the extended WiFi range, enabled by an external WiFi antenna, while an additional GNSS antenna port allows for flexible positioning within the ship’s bridge. This ensures optimal GNSS reception, independent of the Pilot Plug’s location.

SIRIUS+ also features a faster startup time: it is operational within 15 seconds and provides a ship-independent Rate of Turn (ROT) in just 30 seconds. Additionally, a larger battery extends the operational time by 30 percent, offering up to 31 hours of continuous use.

The SIRIUS+ is now available for order and delivery via the TRENZ online store at

with a limited-time introductory price.

Dear Capt. Malyshev,

we'd love to provide you a Portable Pilot Unit to test and use in your port. Unfortunately, due to the EU sanctions against Russia, there's no possibility to export our goods to Russia at this moment in time.

I'm sorry for not being able to help you with this.

Best regards from Bremen!

I am ready to test this unit in St.Petersburg port. If it works in and out without lagging, I’m ready to buy three! Test with high level of jamming and spoofing, as well, as proper and thorough feed back - guarantee!

Opinion How OpenBridge seeks to improve maritime workplaces

by Prof. Kjetil Nordby Institute of Design - The Oslo School of Architecture and Design - published on 6 May 2020

Lack of standard user interfaces across bridge equipment is a major concern for maritime safety. Pilots are in a unique position, as they are constantly exposed to new and differing bridge working environments, equipment, interface designs and combinations of systems. As pilots face this problem throughout every shift they need to put in considerable effort to adjust their work to the many user interfaces they meet.

I recently presented the OpenBridge design system at the Design System Day 2020 in Oslo. I talked about what OpenBridge is, how it differs from other design systems and where we are heading.
The conference was moved online due to the Corona virus, so I had to record the presentation using my mobile phone, and get Jon Olav from the lab to add the slides. So - apologize for the home quality of the presentation, but I hope you enjoy learning more about our work!
