Maritime Pilots in the New York area use Pilot-Guard

by Pilot-Guard International Network for Pilot Safety - published on 11 April 2024 4213 -

Pilot-Guard is a global pilot safety network that enables the real-time exchange of safety-related information between organisations around the globe on non-compliant pilot transfer arrangements (nc-pta) of vessels.

April 10th, 2024 - New York, USA / Bremen, Germany: The New Jersey Maritime Pilot and Docking Pilot Commission is working with its three pilot organisations to evaluate a system for monitoring and exchanging information on pilot ladder defects. The organisations have signed a corresponding agreement with the maritime IT company TRENZ as the operator of Pilot-Guard.

From April 2024, the pilot organisations Interport Pilots Association, Metro Pilots Association and the Harbor Pilots Association will start using the new Pilot-Guard service, which is intended to improve pilot safety. Registered defects on Pilot Transfer Arrangements (PTA) can be transmitted to the next port and the pilots there for follow-up and control.

In addition to the quick recording of PTA defects with photos, defect category and text via app, a web platform is also available for recording, analysing and processing non-compliant PTAs (nc PTAs). If an organisation already uses IT systems, Pilot-Guard's services can be seamlessly integrated into the existing IT environment using an API (Application Programming Interface).

This is an important step towards a global community and database that enables the cross-border exchange of safety-relevant data for pilots. There are also plans to record other safety-relevant ship defects in the future."
