Safehaven Marine have launched ‘Ederra 6’ a new Interceptor 48 pilot boat for the MVD Pilots Association in Montevideo, Uruguay. The first of two Interceptors for the pilots with her sistership due for launch later this summer.

Fitted with a new custom design sliding pilot boarding platform that can be set for different ship side to platform distance’s according to conditions. Powered by a pair of Volvo D15 500hp engines she has a 25kts operational speed.

Her main cabin features a central helm position, is fully air conditioned and accommodates 7 pilots and crew all on suspension seating, with full live aboard facilities provided in a spacious forward accommodation for two crew.

Ederra 6 is fully self-righting, able to recover from a capsize by a large breaking sea, she is Safehaven’s 3rd pilot boat supplied to Montevideo, following ‘Belgrano’ delivered to their compatriots in 2020, and represents Safehaven’s 52nd pilot boat delivered globally.

Here’s a cool little video we made during the sea trials of ‘Belgrano’ a new Interceptor 48 pilot for Montevideo, Uruguay. We captured some really nice drone footage of her offshore in some breaking seas and alongside ship manoeuvres, testing out her pilot boarding ladder and new fender system.

Safehaven Marine have launched another new Pilot boat, there 20th Interceptor 48 and 46th pilot vessel overall for the River Plate pilots in Montevideo, Uruguay. ‘Belgrano’ named after the famous Argentine general, will operate on the River Plate estuary, also famous for being the place of the first naval battle during the second world war, where the German battle cruiser, the Admiral Graf Spee was scuttled.

Safehaven Marine just announced that the ‘MVD Harbour Pilots Society’ who operate pilotage in the River Plate Estuar, Montevideo for two self-righting all weather Interceptor 48 pilots.

The Association of Maryland Pilots has taken delivery of a new class of pilot boat from Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding, Duclos Corporation. Called the “Baltimore Class” after the pilots’ base of operations at the Port of Baltimore.

If you fancy seeing what it’s like aboard during some rough weather sea trials, here’s a pretty cool little video of our Interceptor 48 pilot built for the Port of Sines. Some really great Arial drone footage and interesting POV (Point of view) with narration from aboard her in 5-6m seas and in 50kt winds 25 miles offshore.
How difficult is to land a drone back down on the boat in 5-6m swells and 45-50kt wind gusts? Pretty damn difficult as it turns out! Sometimes we fail as you’ll see at...
