Pilot transfer arrangement is a sensitive topic to be discussed among the pilot’s fraternity. Vessels are required by law to have a trained maritime pilot on board responsible for safely navigating the ship to its desired destination. However, ensuring safe navigation inside dock environments is demanding as mistakes can be extremely costly, time-consuming to correct, and even fatal. An assisting tool working autonomously to support the maritime pilot by predicting possible collisions would lower the risk involved with navigating the vessel.

Klaipeda is one among few seaports in Europe, where maritime pilots are able to carry out operations in remote mode. As it is attempted to avoid contact with other persons as much as possible during the quarantine, several trials have already been performed in the seaport. They revealed that such assistance for the vessels sailing in Klaipeda Port is effective and safe.
