Container vessel ALDIVIA (IMO 9333395) was dangerously close to public beach at Vlissingen Netherlands, on May 21, while heading out to sea, en route from Antwerp to Helsinki Finland.

The cause of dangerous approach is unknown, but the ship wasn’t detained, she continued her voyage.

Officials said the split was caused by a crack in a cargo hold, after the ship's condition deteriorated severely overnight. A Port Otago deckhand was seriously injured in a workplace fall yesterday afternoon.

Port Otago chief executive Kevin Winders said the deckhand on a pilot boat was preparing a ladder to allow a maritime pilot to climb aboard an oil tanker.
