On the 23rd of March 2021 the VLCC Ever Given grounded in the Suez Canal. A strong southerly wind (between 6 and 7 BFT) plus so-called bank shear caused steering issues. This a combined 2D and 3D reconstruction of the incident based on recorded AIS data.

@Louis Vest - I'm sure the investigators would have access to the VDR data downloaded after the accident. This has been compiled only from the AIS data so lacks all the info needed to arrive at a clear conclusion.

Would be helpful to investigators if rudder angle information was part of the display. Also wind speed and direction. Without those it will be difficult to really know much about how she was being affected by bank effect and/or wind. Position and speed alone don't tell the whole picture.
