According to information from “Dominica News Online” and “Dominica Air and Sea Ports Authority”
Capt. and Marine Pilot Burliegh Oscar Bruno died suddenly on Saturday, January 18.

The Board, Management and Staff of DASPA wish to express deepest condolences to the family and friends of one of their Marine Pilots.

Whether he died in the exercise of his job is not yet known.

Officials said the split was caused by a crack in a cargo hold, after the ship's condition deteriorated severely overnight. The Master and Chief Engineer of the log-carrier MV Funing, have today been sentenced and fined after admitting charges relating to the grounding of the ship at the Port of Tauranga in July.

Master Liang Guang Hong and Chief Engineer Chameekara Prasad Nanayakkara both entered guilty pleas in the Tauranga District Court on 10 September to charges brought by Maritime NZ under the Maritime Transport Act (MTA) 1994.
