In the wake of the International Maritime Pilots’ Association’s safety campaign (1-15 October 2024), the latest MS Amlin Marine circular, compiled by theTechnical Loss Prevention Consultant Peter van der Kroft, focuses on the importance of pilot safety in marine navigation.
Every year, incidents during pilot transfers result in injuries and even fatalities, often due to non-compliant transfer arrangements and poor maintenance. With this circular, we aim to raise awareness of these risks and emphasise the need for compliant boarding setups and proactive communication between the vessel’s master and pilot.
Ensuring pilots can safely board and assist vessels is critical to maintaining safe navigation, protecting crews, cargo, and the marine environment.
