PNG Ports Corporation has christianed the Siabo, the first in a series of five pilot boats, each worth seven million Kina.

The pilot boats are part of PNG Ports’ re-fleeting plan to satisfy the demands of its clients, to meet international standards.

State Enterprises Minister, William Duma commended PNG Ports for its consistency in producing outstanding results.

The first of three Watercat 160 Pilot was delivered to the Finnish Finnpilot Pilotage Ltd. in spring 2022. This PILOT boat has a self-righting ability as well as the ability to sail in surface ice of up to five centimetres thick. My personal impression is that a lot has changed in terms of safety in the last two years. Non-compliance with current legislation that directly affects the safety of pilots is now no longer tolerated by many stakeholders. Something is happening. And that is a good thing.
