Article Risk analysis of collision accidents during underway STS berthing maneuver through integrating fault tree analysis (FTA) into Bayesian network (BN)

by Capt. Mustafa Sökükcü and Cenk Sakar - published on 3 May 2023

Extreme scale model testing of the T-2000 hull design

Video Extreme scale model testing of the T-2000 hull design

published on 1 March 2023

We’re doing another day of testing with the self-propelled scale model of T-2000. Obviously the conditions here do comprehensively exceed the designs operational envelope, as in scale proportion to the model, the waves must be I guess around 10-20 metres in size. However it’s interesting to understand the designs ultimate limits. The model is built to a scale of fourteen to one, and this equals 20 metres in real life size. One-off pilot error did not render port unsafe

Opinion One-off pilot error did not render port unsafe

by Tom Macey-Dare KC, Martin Dalby, and Joshua Thomson - published on 12 April 2023

In this charterparty dispute, the arbitral tribunal rejected the Owners’ claim for damages for breach of the safe port warranty in a time charterparty, after a laden bulk carrier grounded at the entrance to the port of Chaozhou, China, while under compulsory pilotage. It also held that the vessel was unseaworthy, in breach of Article III.1 of the Hague Rules, due to lack of proper charts, but found on the facts that this was not causative of the grounding.

What is the right job title for a pilot?
In English the term "pilot" can be misunderstood, because a "pilot" could also be the captain of an airplane. The terms "Marine Pilot" or "Maritime Pilot" describe more precisely that the pilot of a ship and not of an aircraft is meant. If we only write "pilot" on our page, then we always mean the pilot of a vessel.
