The ship could not slow down and sailed against the Old North Lock - “Alte Schleuse Nord”.

On Sunday evening (17/05/2020) around 10 pm, a collision occurred on the Kiel Canal in Brunsbüttel. The Dutch freighter "Rimini" (85m, IMO 9421635) collided with the Old Lock North and severely damaged it.

The crew could not stop the freighter
According to the water police in Brunsbüttel, the background is not yet fully clarified. It is assumed that the crew had had problems reversing the engine system. The ship could not brake sufficiently to avoid a collision.

The crew still dropped anchor to reduce speed.
